A well respected multidisciplinary University, The University of Ljubljana boasts twenty-three facultites and three art academies. With strong international links in the US and Europe, it offers a wide range of quality programmes.
Established in 1919, the University of Ljubljana is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia and consists of 23 faculties and three art academies. The University promotes basic, applied and developmental research, and is well known for its high academic standards and ethics in all scientific fields and art. We have the largest selection of study programmes, extending into all disciplinary fields, and more than half of all university students studying in Slovenia.
The University member schools are responsible for carrying out undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as lifelong learning programmes. Doctoral studies at The University of Ljubljana are organized within its Doctoral School, which was established in 2007. It supports the interdisciplinary approach of doctoral studies, inter-faculty ties and collaboration with other research institutions and individual researchers in Slovenia and abroad. It is the largest research organization in the Republic of Slovenia.
The University of Ljubljana also carries out its developmental pedagogical and research activity within the framework of European programmes CIP, Intelligent Energy for Europe, ERASMUS+; TEMPUS, SAfer Internet Plus, COST, EUREKA, LIFE+, HEALTH, COST, Culture, 7th EU Framework Programme for research and development etc. The University is a member of numerous international networks including: UNICA, Utrecht Network, IRUN, EUA, EU2S2, and CEI. It runs an ongoing student exchange with over 500 universities in Europe and in the region of Southern and Eastern Europe. The university also cooperates with more than a hundred universities across Europe and America, based on bilateral agreements and our membership in international networks.
In 2011-2012, The University of Ljubljana was ranked in the best hundred European universities and was ranked 10th for the number of outgoing students and 14th for the number of incoming students. University rankings: Shanghai: 401-500, QS: 551-600, Webometrics: 192, URAP: 284 International education awards. Other achievements include; students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering won an international competition in the construction of a remote-controlled airplanes 'Design/Build/Fly'; students from Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering became world champions in 'virtual steelmaking' in 2012/2013; A team from the Faculty of Law once again won a regional competition for knowledge of the law of 'the European Union in Central and East European Moot Court'; the Slovenian team CubeSensors won the competition 'Hardware Battlefield' in 2014.
