Why study at Aarhus University?

Located in Scandinavia, Aarhus University (AU) has grown to be a world-leading research institution with a modern, dynamic and highly international study environment. It has a reputation for academic excellence and consistently ranks within the top 100 universities worldwide, most recently ranking 69thin the 2022 Shanghai Rankings. Furthermore, researchers at AU have been awarded a Nobel Prize on two occasions.

Aarhus University is Denmark’s largest research-based university. It has 3 campuses in Denmark (Aarhus, Herning and Emdrup) and 18 external research locations in Denmark, Greenland and Tenerife. AU has five main faculties: Arts, Business and Social Sciences, Health, Natural Sciences and Technical Sciences. Each faculty is highly specialised with state of the art research facilities available for student use. Our faculties of Natural and Technical Sciences both have a special focus on sustainability and facilitating a green transition.

The high volume of research conducted at the university means AU has a strong focus on research-led teaching. Our professors are active researchers in their field and provide world-class teaching based on their current projects. This provides our students with cutting-edge knowledge and ensures our curriculum is always fresh and up to date.

Furthermore, the teaching style at AU is relaxed and discussion-based. This is to develop critical thinking skills and encourage open debate, often within an interdisciplinary environment. Student involvement is a vital part of teaching here, and our professors really value student contributions. The relationship between student and professor is quite informal, and many professors will ask you to call them by their first name to reflect this.

We believe that a degree from Aarhus University gives you a great starting-point for a future international career, be it in research, industry or in the public sector. In terms of international accreditation, Aarhus University’s School of Business and Social Sciences (Aarhus BSS) is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS for the school’s core business activities - which means that Aarhus BSS is a Triple Crown accredited business school.

Aarhus University is proud to be home to many international students, professors and researchers. In fact, 12% of students at AU are international, from over 120 different countries! For that reason, English is our second language here at AU. We offer over 50 English-taught courses at either Bachelor’s or Master’s level. Additionally, all our PhD’s are English-taught. Furthermore, English is spoken widely within Denmark. Most Danes speak English to a very high standard, meaning it is easy to communicate and navigate both within the university campus and out in the city.  In addition, have a dedicated International Centre to provide and introduction to living in Denmark and offer support and guidance during your stay here.
