Tempus Public Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1996 by the Hungarian Government, with the task of managing international cooperation programmes and special projects in the field of education, training and EU-related issues.
Hungarian higher education has represented academic excellence for more than 600 years. The first university in Hungary was founded in 1367 in Pécs, located in the southern region of Hungary. Today there are 67 higher education institutions in Hungary ranging from top research universities to minor colleges. These universities and colleges are financed either by the state, private organizations or a church. The new ranking of the British Times Higher Education newspaper was published on 4 December 2014. It includes only institutions in countries classified as „emerging economies” by FTSE, including the “BRICS” nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. On the 55th place is Semmelweis University with 29.1 points, while on the 67th place is the University of Debrecen reached 26.7 points out of 100. The methodology of the ranking is the following: five main missions of the universities are evaluated The three most important are the teaching conditions, research and the quotations of the publications. Innovation and international outlook of teaches and students are also examined. The first International Alumni Network (IAN) in Hungary, that will be set up and coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) in close cooperation with the country’s universities and colleges wishes to establish and enhance an interactive, highly engaged and vibrant alumni community of former international students who have attended or graduated from any higher education institutions in Hungary. The purpose of the International Alumni Network is to provide a forum to connect or (re)unite with your former fellow students and alma mater through social events, alumni meetings and online services of our Alumni Portal that will be launched soon. You could stay updated about Hungary by obtaining exclusive access to our quarterly published newsletter about cultural, educational and training programmes and further potential scholarships. The International Alumni Network could also contribute to the development and promotion of Hungarian higher education by maintaining mutually beneficial relationships between former students and institutions.
