Europe is one of the world’s best regions to study history, with a wide variety of institutions offering high standard undergraduate and post-graduate academic courses - from elite universities to mid-range HEIs. According to the QS World University Rankings 2015, Europe has 22 of the Top 50 universities in the world offering courses in history, more than any other region. Many of these are in the UK including the London School of Economics and Political Science, which has a well respected Department of International History, the University of Warwick, Kings College London, the University of Exeter and the University of Manchester. Germany is also traditionally strong at this subject, with Humboldt-Universitat Zu Berlin, Frei Universitat Berlin, Ludwig Universitat Maximilians Munchen, Ruprecht-Karls Universitat Heidelberg, and the Universitat Frieberg - all globally recognised. EHEVF 2016 India and South Asia participant University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland is well respected internationally and makes the QS World University Rankings 2016 Top 100. The UCD School of History offers several 1 year postgraduate qualifications including an MA in History, its flagship taught graduate Programme as well as an MA in the History of Medicine, MLitt in History, MA in Archives Management, MA in the Social and Cultural History of Medicine. The School also hosts the UNICA Masters in European History, a collaborative two year MA run by 10 universities across Europe. Students study in 2 or 3 of the collaborating universities, which are based in Dublin, London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Berlin, Tallinn and Lisbon. Leiden University is ranked the 19th best in the World for this subject. It offers two English-taught masters degrees, a 1 year MA in History and a MA History (Research) – both giving specialist options including Political Culture and National Identities and Migration and Global Interdependence.
